Andhra Pradesh, aptly called "The Gate Way of South India" for its distinct geographical identity, is indeed one of the largest states of India. Palakonda town in Parvathipuram Manyam district located on the extreme north area of the state enjoys the status of being the Crown of Andhra Pradesh topographically. Historically popular as Kalinga Desam, the kingdom was ruled by the Ganga dynasty for over 500 years. Palakonda town is the one of the Revenue Divisions of the district is situated in towards the north at 600ft. latitude.
In the center of the Palakonda town stands a palatial building with a hoary past, housing the Government Degree College. The magnificent multi-pillared edifice symbolizes the magnitude of the dreams, hopes, aspirations and also the yearning and the awakening of the people of this region over the last thirty years for a meaningful and purposeful higher education and its fulfillment.
The Government Degree College, the third College in the district was established in 1983 vide. G.O.Ms.No.376/Edn. Dated: 12-09-1983 of the Andhra Pradesh Government. This college was affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and attached to the newly formed Dr.B.R.Ambedkar University, Srikakulam from the Academic Year 2010-11. And the College was admitted to 2(f) and 12(b) of U.G.C Act on 09-11-1992. Since inception B.A. and B.Com courses were started later, B. Sc (MPC, CBZ) courses were introduced in the year 1998.
